City Council’s Fire Dept. Location Committe Votes to Recommend New Fire Station Be Build on Whaley Property

July 8th, 2010 by Joe Burgess

The Monticello City Council’s fire station location committee voted this morning to recommend to that city council that the city continue with plans to build a new fire station at the old Whaley school location on North Main Street. The committee, made up of 4 city council members, voted 3 to 1 to present their decision to the full city council. Alderman Carolyn Brown cast the only “no” vote, commenting that she was concerned about the building’s appearance, and that “historic is historic.” Mayor Joe Rogers estimated that the new fire station can be built for around $450,000, which is how much the city has set back for a new fire station.
